Role Overview

As a Commercial Manager, you’ll be responsible for post contract commercial contract management and for supporting pre-contract activity of all frameworks and contracts related to a programme of works.

With over 30 years of experience in over twenty countries we are the specialists in the delivery of airside and landside aviation projects for the Military and Civil Aviation Sectors.

We operate across all major airports in the UK and Ireland, including logistically challenging regional airports such as those in the Highlands & Islands of Scotland and the Channel Islands. Globally, we have successfully delivered projects in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean.

 We’re also a key delivery partner to the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), providing support to the UK Armed Forces at Ministry of Defence (MOD) bases throughout the UK and overseas.

 What you’ll do

As the Commercial Manager your responsibilities will include all the post contract commercial contract management on our joint venture project at Dublin Airport.

The Commercial Manager will be responsible for establishing and implementing appropriate commercial strategies including effective project cost management and providing feedback into subsequent procurement processes. In addition, the role will hold responsibility for the commercial management of framework agreements and supporting contracts leading the commercial review of contractor delivery, attending valuation and progress meetings as necessary.

The Commercial Manager will have responsibility for the financial management of standard projects from inception, tendering to, negotiating and agreeing contracts, and commercially delivering projects. As an integral part of the project team the role holds key responsibilities associated with leading the commercial and financial success of each project. Responsibilities also range across risk management to procurement, contract management, financial reporting and managing the supply chain.

The role will also foster effective communication through supporting pre and post contract procurement activities as appropriate and acting as role model for commercial colleagues internally (and where appropriate, externally) providing coaching and development as necessary. Supporting the bid director in winning strategic bids by use of good commercial strategy and process.

Key accountabilities for the role of Commercial Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Implement commercial best practice to maximise value and minimise risk and cost to The Company with the intent of delivering robust commercial solutions in all our bids

  • Support the business in developing and implementing commercial strategies for successfully winning bids and managing post contract activities by driving consistency of good valuation/commercial processes both pre and post contract

  • Lead or provide commercial support to deliver expected P&L results across Contracts or Bids

  • Initiate estimating and risk & value management of projects in a timely manner during the project life cycle, recommending appropriate mitigating actions on commercial/risk events at the earliest opportunity

  • Provide pro-active expertise, advice, and governance on contract/scope changes in accordance with change control systems, recommending or authorising appropriate action within delegated authority and progressing the timely resolution of contract variations

  • Monitoring and managing all project reporting to ensure that it is accurately maintained and recorded in accordance with company reporting systems

  • Deliver the pre and post contract opportunity and risk process including mitigation of risk Negotiate with key customer interfaces

  • Develop new and innovate existing strategies for further improving cash flows of the business

  • Support the Commercial Team in winning strategic bids and in the management of all live projects ensuring they are adequately resourced from a commercial perspective by use of good commercial strategy and process

  • Support with pre and post contract procurement activities to ensure commercial processes are embedded at all levels of the business and act as role model for commercial staff providing coaching and development as appropriate

  • Monitoring projects ensuring business goals are achieved, protection of commercial interests and monitoring company cash flow to ensure accurate forecasting, payments, and reconciliation of accounts

  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties as required

  • Working across projects on various sites as required.

What you’ll bring

  • A background in Civil Engineering and/or related Civils experience is desirable

  • Ideally you will be a have membership of RICS, ICE or CIOB

  • A degree or relevant equivalent experience

  • Experience of working in commercial management teams in major complex infrastructure projects and programmes to deliver value for money for the Client/Employer

  • Experience of planning, developing and implementing high value and complex contracts and of working closely with procurement teams in tender preparation, administration and evaluation

  • Experience of using commercial management and reporting systems

  • Experience of resolution of construction contract disputes

  • Experience of working on aviation infrastructure and/or major construction projects, nationally and internationally is desirable

In addition, you will be able to demonstrable knowledge of and experience of delivering commercial solutions for complex civil engineering projects of high value through first-hand experience, supported by your commercial acumen. You’ll also be skilled in monitoring construction progress and managing the project within budget and time constraints with an awareness of disputes resolution including options, structure, techniques, experts etc. You will also have good problem-solving skills with the ability to collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions, well developed written/oral communication skills for reports and relationship building/maintenance and good IT skills in Word, Excel and Outlook.
